Gift of the Wind

It was a nice windy day just like any other day in the Wind Tribe village. As always, Zeith sits on the grass, near the giant wind pipe to listen to its random melody as the pipes are being played by the crafty wind. On his chest is a petite feathery snakelike creature with wings and talons as that of an eagle. Its feather is mostly green with a little mix of random pastel colors at the each feather's end. It isn't a surprise that Zeith would develop a skill for summoning but no one expected that he would end up with one of the rarest elemental spirits of the wind realm. He never got serious with his training and would only think of the world beyond their village. The incident of him, loosing his voice only got him traumatized for at least a year but the moment he got fully recovered, he came back to being the candid boy he was, having thirst for countless adventures.

it started from a gentle breeze that flowed from behind Zeith however, then quickly escalated to a sudden gust of strong wind causing the grass at the park to billow towards its direction. The wind didn't enter the holes of the giant wind pipe preventing an alarming sound that might have been caused by the violent wind.

The wind mysteriously stopped just a few meters in front of Zeith, followed by a blinding light. As the light slowly fade, the figure of a winged man appeared facing Zeith's direction. His wings flapped a few times causing a few feathers to float in the air, then the wings slowly folded themselves at the back of the man.



"Greetings free spirited adventurer. What could be holding an adventurer such as yourself pinned in this place?" The man's voice was gentle, as soft as a melancholic flute piece. He stood still, not moving an inch from where he appeared.

It was a nice day to simply simmer down in the park, listening to the sweet melody of the great wind pipe, being played upon by the soft eastern wind or perhaps to frolic around in spite of Zeith being alone in the park. The soft wind caused Zeith to close his eyes and relax feeling the cold breeze that gently massages his back and his hair. It surprised him however, when the soothing wind suddenly turned into a violent tempest causing Zeith to fold his arms, embracing his elemental spirit to prevent it from being carried by the wind.

Zeith raised his right arm to protect his eyes from the sudden explosion of bright light in front of him. He slowly brought his arm down upon the gradual fading of the light. He was surprised yet again at the sudden appearance of a winged being in front of him. He assumed the being to be an elemental spirit however, as the light settles down, the being takes form of a winged man.

Zeith's heart beat faster in the presence of a stranger that appeared quite mysteriously. His nervousness was settled however, when the being finally spoke in a gentle manner. The being inquired of the reason why Zeith is trapped inside the village.

Zeith quickly pulled his small notebook from his pocket and wrote to respond to the stranger's inquiry. It took him quite a while before he can hold his notebook up and show the stranger his note of reply.

It was the village elders. They never allow me to roam outside the village. Actually, no child is allowed outside our place unless given permission by the elders.

Zeith wrote quite neatly this time, certain of how he should respond.

"I see. Well, perhaps their restriction has some purpose in it." The stranger smiled as he slowly pulls himself down to sit on the grass and level himself with the boy he is speaking with. He crossed his left leg under its right pair which is bent forward with his right elbow resting on his right knee and his left palm touching the ground.

Upon getting himself fully seated, he stared at the sky, inhaled deeply, then released the air with a gentle blow. "Ah the wind here tastes sweet. Perhaps it is home to the nicest people there is." The stranger then gently stared back at the boy in front of him. "By the way, the name is Raph. And what would yours be?"

Seeing the stranger's mild nature, Zeith slowly grown a bit comfortable in the current conversation. Zeith finally smiled back as the stranger reply after his last statement. He kept his stare pinned to the stranger out of mere curiosity as the man in front of him slowly gets down to sit on the grass. His curiosity seems to remain at the wings on the man's back which is currently hidden from his line of sight.

He can't help but to mimic the man's sudden breathing exercise as the calm air around them is indeed a relaxing one. He attentively listened the moment his mysterious visitor spoke yet again. He smiled even wider upon the stranger's positive comment on their tribe followed up by the stranger's introduction of his name. He laid his notebook at the ground and merrily wrote a reply.

Ah yes indeed we have the nicest people here in the whole wide galaxy! And I am Zeith Corry. It's a pleasure to meet you.

He excitingly held his notebook as if delivering a delightful news.

"Your voice must be sweet should you have one. But I know you have none at the moment. Well it's obvious by how you spoke to me." Raph smiled, trying convey his speech as a friendly remark rather than an insult. "Well I hope you don't mind me mentioning that."

Nope! I don't mind. And thanks for the earlier compliment.

Zeith smiled back as he raise his note for Raph to see. His genuine smile proves his innocense in spite of his bitter, tragic past.

The loss of my voice is quite a long story to tell but I don't mind telling it if you're interested.
